“Mama, what’s this?” April held the photograph out for her mother to take.
Beatrice took it and turned it around in her hands. The edges were a bit torn up and there was a coffee stain in one corner. The memory, however, was pristine. Two people laughing in a room full of people. All eyes were on them. The man staring adoringly down at the woman whose smile was so wide it was infectious.
The man’s dark tuxedo was a stark contrast to the woman’s white gown. The thin tulle on her head was pulled back. They were happy, celebrating the beginning of their lives together. The excitement of the future to come had embraced them.
Beatrice looked up from the photo at her daughter. “This, darling, was the best mistake I ever made.”
